HKU-GHK Institutional Review Board
HKU-GHK Institutional Review Board (HKU-GHK IRB) was established jointly by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK) in accordance with its terms of reference for managing research involving human subjects undertaken by and/or conducted in the premises owned, managed and/or controlled by HKU and/or GHK, and/or involving patients and/or staff thereof as human subjects in such clinical studies. The HKU-GHK IRB is governed by GHK through the Education, Training & Research Committee (ETRC), and operates in compliance with its written policies and procedures and the core principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and the ICH GCP, as well as other applicable international, national or local ethics standards or regulatory requirements.

According to the U.S. regulations, any medical institution that wishes to be involved in any clinical study funded by the U.S. federal government or any U.S. governmental agencies (e.g. the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) must use institutional review boards/research ethics committees (IRBs/RECs) registered with the U.S. Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) for review and oversight of its clinical studies. To facilitate collaboration in international clinical research, HKU-GHK IRB has registered with the OHRP.
