Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) (320-Slice CT Scanner)

What is Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA)?

Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) is a non-invasive imaging method used to assess the coronary vessels and whether narrowing is present in any of the artery. During the procedure, an iodine contrast is injected into a vein in the patient’s arm. Coronary artery images are then captured by the fast scanner while the patient is holding his/her breath. If a significant narrowing is identified on the scanner, this indicates that there is presence of coronary artery disease.

Why is Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) required?

Doctor may request a Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) if chest pain occurs during exercises or without apparent reason in an at-risk patient. The result of the scan can help to determine the cause of chest pain. The doctor may also recommend this test to check if any coronary (heart) arteries are blocked and the extent of blockage so as to help deciding whether further procedures, such as invasive coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), are needed.
