Positron Emission Tomography – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (PET-MR)

What is PET-MR Scan?

PET/MR is a new medical imaging device that performs positron-emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans at the same time. PET is a medical imaging examination that provides information on how an organ in the body is working. MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to provide images of any part of the body from any angle.

The simultaneous use of PET and MRI provides more detailed and enhanced imaging than either procedure alone. This new hybrid imaging technology aims to provide information on the causes, effects and development of various diseases.

Why is PET-MR Scan required?

PET/MR has the potential to detect and diagnose certain complex malignancies, including cancers of the neck, pelvis, and neck, with high level of accuracy and confidence. This technique allows doctors to provide better disease and treatment planning, therefore improving care for the patients.
