What is Discectomy?

Discectomy is performed to treat a herniated disc in the spine. The surgery removes the fragment of disc causing pressure on the nerve. The procedure may be done as open surgery or as keyhole surgery using a smaller incision.

Why is Discectomy required?

Surgery would be performed to help relieve symptoms in patients who have a herniated disc, a fragment of the normal spinal disc has moved that may press against the spinal cord or the nerves that surround the spinal cord.
