Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong relaunches special offers on 12 joint replacement all-inclusive fixed price medical packages for public hospital patients

(4 October 2021 – Hong Kong) Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (Gleneagles) launched last year special offers on all-inclusive fixed-price medical packages to help patients who were affected by the reduction of non-urgent services in public hospitals to receive prompt care. In view of the overwhelming response and the notable demand for joint replacement surgeries, Gleneagles relaunches the exclusive offers to public hospital patients who may join the 12 designated joint replacement all-inclusive fixed-price medical packages at a reduction of 21% from the original fees.

Joint replacement surgery is one of the longest-waiting surgeries in public hospitals. As at 30 June 2021, there were over 32,000 bookings for total joint replacement surgeries in the Orthopaedics & Traumatology department of Hospital Authority with a median waiting time of 20 months to 39 months.

Effective from 4 October 2021, and until 30 November 2021, patients with appointments scheduled for orthopaedics specialist outpatient service in public hospitals are eligible to use the joint replacement packages at a reduction of 21% from the original fees. The offer covers total knee replacement (unilateral or bilateral), partial knee replacement and total hip replacement, with discounts ranging from about HK$31,000 to HK$50,000.

Dr Kenneth Tsang, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles, said, “Although the current epidemic situation in Hong Kong has stabilised and services of public hospitals have gradually resumed, there is still a significant demand for joint replacement surgery. During the period from the initial launch of our special offers on medical packages to June 2021, more than 170 public hospital patients with joint problems have benefited from this scheme”.  "Since its opening at the end of 2018, our Joint Replacement Centre has been adopting the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery approach which enables patients to walk as soon as one hour after surgery. Earlier on, we have introduced robotic arm-assisted joint replacement surgery and are looking to provide medical packages on robotic arm-assisted surgeries to provide patients with one more option. By providing more choices to patients, we hope to help reduce the burden of orthopedic surgeries on public hospitals in the long run”, Dr Tsang added.

Gleneagles’ all-inclusive fixed-price medical packages are designed to give patients high-quality services with price certainty. The package fee covers doctor and anaesthetist’s fees, diagnostic procedures, treatment, operating theatre, equipment, implants, medication, consumable, room and meals, nursing procedures, as well as fees arising from complications and intensive care, if any. Pre-admission fee advisory service will be provided to patients so that they will have a clear understanding of the cost and services covered.
