The phlebotomist training course offered by Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong has nurtured many talents to enter the healthcare industry as phlebotomists. The role of a phlebotomist is closely associated with the laboratory operation. Understanding clinical laboratory operations and testing items helps consolidate the professional knowledge and skills. 

Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong is now offering new courses that combine specialist laboratory knowledge with special blood collection procedures, including paediatric phlebotomy and blood culture sample collection. The course will also cover the roles of medical laboratory assistants and various laboratory procedures and techniques, enabling students to fully master their daily work. Additionally, the laboratory work included in this course is suitable for students aspiring to become medical laboratory assistants. 

The Clinical Laboratory of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong has been accredited as a TQUK (Training Qualification UK) recognised centre, and this course will also be eligible for TQUK certification.

10 May 2025 (Written Test)

11 April 2025 - 16 May 2025 (Laboratory practice and examination - Choose ONE time slot)

Course content:Course include:
- General clinical laboratory knowledge
   - Introduction to medical laboratory 
   - Understand clinical laboratory 
   - Medical laboratory assistant: responsibilities, laboratory acquired skills, chemical spillage handling

- Advanced phlebotomy and intravenous cannulation technique
     - History of phlebotomy 
     - Anatomical systems and related disorders and laboratory tests 
     - Phlebotomy review 
     - Advanced phlebotomy techniques:
  capillary sample collection, blood culture collection, paediatric and neonatal blood phlebotomy, geriatric phlebotomy.
 
     - Advanced intravenous cannulation techniques 
     - Infection control and occupational safety 
-  Electrocardiogram (ECG) operation and understanding
     -  History and anatomy 
     -  ECG waveform 
     -  Abnormalities indicated by ECG 
     -  ECG interpretation process
     -  ECG operation procedure 
     -  Special ECG operation 
Language:Cantonese supplemented with English medical terms
Assessment:Written and practical examination
Award:80% attendance + passing of examination 

Graduates will be awarded a certificate of Diploma in Advanced Clinical Laboratory Knowledge, Phlebotomy, Intravenous Cannulation and Electrocardiogram Operation (TQUK Level 5) by TQUK and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong

Graduates who have completed our Phlebotomy Diploma course: 
1. Priority admission
2. After completing this course, you can also apply for the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Knowledge and Phlebotomy - Intravenous Cannulation and Electrocardiogram Operation (TQUK Level 5)
Requirement:1. Secondary school level or above, able to communicate in fluent Cantonese with basic competency in English.
2. Hold a certificate or diploma in venepuncture or related courses. 
3. Current position as a phlebotomist, laboratory assistant or medical assistance training or working in a medical institution is preferred.
