Gleneagles strengthens free telemedicine service as Hong Kong’s first private hospital to provide free consultation and medication amid pandemic

(22 March 2022 – Hong Kong) Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (Gleneagles) has been taking a multipronged approach to support COVID-19 patients. Since early March, the hospital has launched free online medical counselling service to provide timely and professional support to members of the public who are under home isolation due to COVID-19 infection and other patients with medical needs. To further support COVID-19 patients and those who are unable to seek medical assistance physically, Gleneagles will enhance its free online consultation service from 24 March 2022, making it the city’s first private hospital that offers free virtual consultation and medication delivery services as part of its anti-pandemic efforts.

Effective from 24 March 2022, Gleneagles’ enhanced free online consultation service will include online consultation provided by Gleneagles Virtual Family Medicine Centre, basic prescription medicines, a rapid antigen test kit, and medication delivery service. With the continued support from NWS Holdings Limited, the service will be extended to the end of April. A daily quota is applied for the virtual consultation service, and members of the public may make a booking for the service through the online system on the hospital’s website. The service will be provided to patients aged 9 or above.

Dr Kenneth Tsang, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles, said, “Demand for medical services continues to be strong amid the pandemic, and this is particularly true for those who are unwell but unable to seek medical assistance and medication support. Riding on the keen response to the free online medical counselling service launched in early March, and with the support from NWS Holdings Limited, the hospital will enhance this existing free online consultation service to offer more comprehensive support to meet patients’ needs and allow more people to receive timely care.”

Gleneagles has been proactively supporting Government’s anti-pandemic work and helping public hospital patients through different initiatives. To alleviate the pressure on public hospitals, Gleneagles will set aside 150 beds in phases for non-COVID-19 patients referred by public hospitals such that their resources may be focused on the more severely-infected patients. In addition, Gleneagles has committed to providing medical support to the elderly patients with mild COVID-19 symptoms or those who are in rehabilitation at the newly established holding centre at Tsing Yi Southwest Sports Centre. At present, over 100 public hospital patients have been arranged to be referred to Gleneagles for various in-patient and day care services. Meanwhile, to assist patients who are affected by the reduction of non-urgent services in public hospitals, Gleneagles has offered special offers on medical packages for public hospital patients, including the total knee replacement medical package relaunched earlier this month.
