Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital named one of the best 50 Hospitals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area

(16 July 2018 – Hong Kong) Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital (GHK) is named one of the "2017 Best 50 Hospitals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area" by healthcare management and research centre Asclepius Healthcare (Asclepius).

In the assessment conducted based on data on medical expertise, resource allocation, hospital operation and academic impact collected from integrated hospitals and traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in nine cities and two special administrative regions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and the Greater Bay Area, GHK is ranked 26th among the top 50.

GHK Chief Executive Officer Mr Dirk Schraven said, “As a new hospital in Hong Kong, it is encouraging to see Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital being recognised as one of the best hospitals in the region. I am confident that we will continue to improve in a number of aspects as we continue to learn from our patients, doctors and other stakeholders.” “We also look forward to the opportunities of collaborating with other medical institutions in the Mainland and offering quality medical services to people in the Greater Bay Area,” Mr Schraven added.

Asclepius looked into data such as the number of senior physicians, annual inpatient surgeries and discharges, number of specialties, percentage of ICU beds etc in assessing the hospitals’ medical expertise, while ratios including doctor-to-bed and nurses-to-bed, and number of staff against annual A&E attendances were taken into account in its analysis on resource allocation. Criteria covered in assessing hospital operation and academic impact included average length of stay, hospital bed occupancy rate, annual number of grant-supported research projects, affiliation to a medical school etc.
