Gleneagles Virtual Family Medicine Centre launches free online consultation service to help people in need and alleviate pressure on public healthcare system

(25 February 2022 – Hong Kong) Since the early stages of the pandemic, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (Gleneagles) has provided online consultation service to allow patients to receive medical service from home. As Hong Kong braces for this critical pandemic situation, the hospital will launch free online consultation service via Gleneagles Virtual Family Medicine Centre next month to provide timely and professional medical consultation and support to patients in need and help alleviate the pressure on public hospitals.

Effective from 1 March 2022, Gleneagles will offer free online consultation service to be provided by Family Medicine specialists. The service is fully supported by NWS Holdings Limited and will initially be run for one month. Any members of the public in need can make a booking for the virtual consultation service through the online system on the hospital’s website. Patients who have successfully registered will receive details of the consultation service and a confirmation email. The hospital will provide consultation service to people aged 9 or above.

Dr Kenneth Tsang, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles, said, “We understand that members of the public may have different worries or difficulties amid the latest pandemic situation, and some who are under home isolation due to COVID-19 infection or other related reasons may be unable to seek medical assistance physically. Through launching this free online Family Medicine consultation service, we hope that more patients will be able to receive timely and appropriate medical advice such that their concerns may be eased.”

Gleneagles will continue to support Hong Kong’s anti-pandemic work via all feasible means. The hospital is actively liaising with the Hospital Authority on different proposals with an aim to provide care and treatments to some of the public hospital patients with urgent or semi-urgent needs as soon as practicable. Gleneagles has also launched different schemes such as special offers on medical packages for public hospital patients, including the recently-relaunched total knee replacement package. Through these schemes, we hope to help reduce burden on the public healthcare system so that it can focus its resources on treating COVID-19 confirmed cases. Since 2020, Gleneagles has been providing virtual consultation service. While our virtual consultation service has been providing our existing patients an additional consultation option amid the pandemic, the service was extended to take care of patients with chronic diseases last year.
